Margaux Sladden
in-depth history of early music
Margaux Sladden is a professor of music history and the head of TFE at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles. Her objective is to instill her passion for research, guiding students in cultivating their own individual reflections by merging theory and practice, utilizing documented approaches, fostering critical thinking, and encouraging creativity.
As a member of the Laboratoire de Musicologie (LaM) at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Margaux Sladden is presently engaged in research for her doctoral thesis. Her study delves into the intricate relationship between philosophy and music in France during the first half of the twentieth century, with a special emphasis on the influence of Henri Bergson's work on musical creation and thought. Notably, her master's thesis, dedicated to Boris de Schloezer, earned her a prize in the Royal Academy of Belgium's annual competition in 2014.
Margaux Sladden's research in the realm of music criticism and aesthetics is evident in her lectures and articles, published in prestigious outlets such as La Revue belge de Musicologie, La Revue musicale OICRM, Presses universitaires de Rennes, Vrin, and others. Additionally, she oversees the programming of the concert series with commentary titled "Echoes: Music and Thought" at the Vénerie in Brussels.
