Brussels-based French pianist Claire Chevallier is highly sought after on the international stage. Renowned for her award-winning recordings, Claire specializes in historically informed performances. As both a musician and researcher, she has curated her own collection of keyboard instruments, comprising six grand pianos that span the period from 1842 to 1920.
She has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician at prestigious venues such as Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Muziekgebouw aan't IJ in Amsterdam, Vredenburg Utrecht, Netwerk Oude Muziek Utrecht, Musikfestspiele Sanssouci Potsdam, Köln Brühl Schloss Konzerte, Köln Fest für Alte Musik, Musikfestspiele Bremen, Frankfurt Alte Oper, Mozarteum Salzburg, Beethoven Fest in Bonn, Flâneries Musicales de Reims, Cité de la musique in Paris, Salle Pleyel, Opéra de Bordeaux, and Auditorium de Dijon.
In Belgium, she is a frequent guest at renowned venues such as Concertgebouw Brugge, BOZAR Brussels, Flagey, AMUZ Antwerp, de Bijloke Gent, the Festival of Flanders in Ghent and Bruges, and the Klara Festival. Additionally, she served as a jury member at the Bruges International Pianoforte Competition in 2007 and 2009, and in 2014 at the International Liszt Competition in Utrecht, Holland.
In 2018 she was a member of the jury at the First Warsaw International Chopin Competition on early instruments.

Since 2004, she has been teaching fortepiano at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Her broad interest in artistic disciplines has led her to collaborate with various artists and groups, including Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker/Rosas, Josse de Pauw, David Claerbout, Wayn Traub/Toneelhuis, Benoît van Innis, Jan Decorte/Bloet (2011), Claron McFadden/Transparant (2017), Jan Lauwers/Needcompany (2019), and Lisbeth Gruwez/Voetvolk (2020-2023).

Achievements

  • 1996-1998: Claire Chevallier tunes the fortepiano for all VIVARTE SONY Classical International recordings - artistic director of the recording: Wolf Erichson - fortepiano Jos van Immerseel - with Archibudelli, Anner Bylsma, Vera Beths. E.g. Complete Beethoven fortepiano concertos with the Tafelmusik Orchestra, Toronto.
  • 1997: the Claire Chevallier & Jos van Immerseel 2 pianos-4 hands duet begins (for a period of 21 years) with numerous international concerts and CD's.
  • 1998: pianoforte teacher at the Koninklijke Conservatorium Antwerpen (Hogeschool) until 2002
  • 2000: soloist in Beethoven's Fantasy for choir and orchestra with solo fortepiano at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw with the Radio Kamer Orkest NL, live for radio.
  • 2001: professor of tuning on early instruments and coordinator of the instrument-making department at the Hogeschool Gent until 2006
  • 2005: tour and CD recording of Ravel's Concerto pour la main gauche (now a world reference, first version on period instruments)
  • 2006: Mozart recording specially commissioned for Radio Klara (Belgian classical music) for the launch of their digital website. Last performance of 'Un moto di gioa' / Mozart / Rosas with Claire Chevallier as pianoforte soloist at the Theater an der Wien after 10 years of world touring.
  • 2009: 20-concert Schubert 4 hands tour of Belgium and Holland with Jos van Immerseel
  • 2010: French tour (Salle Pleyel, Festival d'Aix en Provence, Versailles, Grenoble...) in Poulenc's concerto for 2 pianos
  • 2011 : CD Liszt solo
  • 2013: awarded an artistic development grant from the Flemish government's 'Arts and Heritage' department for research into Russian music and pianos at the end of the 19th century.
  • 2014: Jury at the International Liszt Competition in Utrecht (alongside Paul Badura-Skoda)
  • 2015: Soloist in Mendelssohn's double concerto with Anima Eterna and Liszt recital at the Beethovenfest - Bonn
  • 2016: Schubertiades tour in Sweden - soloist in De Falla's 'Noches en el Jardines de Espana' - Mezzo TV
  • 2018: gives a master class in fortepiano at the Norwegische Musikhochschule Oslo
  • 2019: gives a masterclass in pianoforte at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater- Hamburg - collaboration with Jan Lauwers- Needcompany (guest director at the Salzburg Festival)
  • 2020: Piano Works Debussy world tour (in France: Internationaal Theater Amsterdam, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Théâtre de la Ville Paris...)
