The course, akin to Janus, the god with two faces, emphasizes that theory is just one facet of a complete understanding, with practice being the other side. These two facets are interconnected and mutually enriching. The course's objective is to provide musicians with the theoretical foundation necessary for navigating the intricate and diverse musical practices of the past. Students are expected to gain the ability to recognize relevant theoretical sources for interpreting a specific musical piece.
